MANIFESTOS FOR CANDIDATES RUNNING IN THE HARRY POTTER SOCIETY COMMITTEE ELECTIONS
Members have one vote for each position. The option to vote for the reopening of nominations is also provided.
President: Kate Friday
Hi there, I'm Katie and I would like to be the next President for Harry Potter society to bring a new breath of fresh air into the society, after seeing and being involved in all of the wonderful work this year. I hope to replicate some of the events run this year, in particular the Horcrux Hunt and the Halloween feast, as well as the quizzes, but also try out some new ideas, along with my fellow nominated committee members. I am passionate about Harry Potter and about the Order of the Ruskin and having been a vice committee member this year, I know I can hit the ground running. My biggest goal, and something I would love to see, is it live on to be Society of the Year for the second year running. Thank you.
Administrator: Charley Lawson
As a parcel-mouth I have the exceptional ability to communicate with parcels, packages and letters, which is fairly important for an administrator. It’s been a magical year being a vice, and I really don’t want to Quidditch it now! It would be Ron not to vote for me.
But in all Sirius-ness, I have had experience of what it is like to hold this position within the society, and it would be awesome if I could carry on with this next year as well.
Treasurer: Richelle Concepcion
For the last few months, I have been channelling my inner Hermione, keenly shadowing and learning about the different roles within the society as a vice. They say that only goblins know the secrets of the twisting underground passages and enchantments of Gringotts, a knowledge passed on from one goblin to another. Becoming a vice has helped gain insight into the twisting passages of our own society, what works and what doesn’t.
With that knowledge, I would like to continue on this magical experience as your treasurer. I would like to pull more focus on fundraising next year to be able to host grand feasts and events (well what can you do? SPEW are encouraging house-elves to demand higher pay for their labour, it’s only fair). Also, there are many ideas that we, as a committee, have come up with and for one reason or another we were not able to carry out. It would be bloody brilliant to be given a chance to carry on and develop these ideas, for you to be able to see that there is method behind the madness after all.
Social Events Coordinators: Charley Lawson and Richelle Concepcion (Joint)
Although we are running for our own individual roles within the society, we would also like to metamorphose into Social Events Coordinators as well. We have thoroughly enjoyed organizing apparation locations and muggle repelling charms for events such as the Horcrux Hunt and the NEWTs pub quiz, so much so that we would like the opportunity to organise more of these magical
events next year. It can be done alone, but much like destroying horcruxes it is better executed as a team and so for this reason, and because we don't want to be worked harder than an overworked house elf, we would like to take on the role together.

Through the trapdoor...
Hello to all the ARU
Potterheads for one of the last times from our current Committee!
We’ve had a truly magical
year as the Harry Potter Society, and we have just a couple more things to
finish up before it draws to a close.
First, we have our Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 7th May, at 6.30pm in
LAB 214, to review how the year has been and vote in a new Committee. For
more details read on!
Then we have our last
social, the Through The Trapdoor Pub
Social, on Friday 17th
May, 7.30pm – 9.30pm at the Tram Depot. This will be our public handover to
the new Committee as we bid farewell to the Four Founders of the Order of the
Ruskin, and we would love to share it with you!

AGM
The AGM is an opportunity
for all our members to come along and tell us what you think of the Society,
what worked well, what could be improved, and what you’d like to see next year,
and we’d love to see as many Society members as possible!
We will also be voting in
a new Committee so that the Society can continue through the next year. Every
paid member of the Society has one vote for each position and is encouraged to take part in the elections,
even if you’re going on to more magical adventures at the end of this year!
If you are interested in standing for any of the positions, please send
us your manifesto through the facebook page or to orderoftheruskin@gmail.com by MIDNIGHT on
MONDAY 6TH MAY. You must attend the AGM in order to be considered for the
Committee. There is a possibility we will be able to conduct online voting as
well, but this is not certain.
Your manifesto is intended to let people know who you are and what you
want to do in the Society if you get voted in. This is your opportunity to say
what you plan on bringing to the Society, what makes you perfect for the role
and what direction you want to the Order of the Ruskin in over the next year.
Think about what would make you vote for someone!
These will be posted for our members as soon as we receive them,
provided there are no issues, but you MUST submit a manifesto if you wish to
stand. Good luck and feel free to get in touch with us if there are any issues!
Required positions are: President, Administrator, Treasurer
Other positions available: Vice President, Social Events Coordinator

A Truly Magical Thank You.
So the ARU Harry Potter Society was awarded Society of the Year 2012-13 last night at the Clubs and Socs Ball and I cannot possibly express how proud I am of everyone who has been involved and supported us through this year. It's been an incredible opportunity and I'm genuinely honoured to have been able to share it with such an awesome group of Potterheads.
It really has been a crazy year and we've had our share of ups and downs, both difficult and truly magical moments. We have an amazing base of members and have had so much fun working with other Societies and the fantastic and ever-supportive SU. It's been a magical journey and I will be sad to say goodbye as the current Committee move on to future Wizarding adventures, but it's been an incredible experience and I've loved every moment of it.
So an immense and heartfelt 'thank you' to everyone who's given the Order of the Ruskin their time from that moment in that kitchen when we wondered if it would be possible, to the near-200 people signed up, to everyone who's attended our events and Pub Socials, and to you if you have stuck with the ARU Harry Potter Society until what is surely not the end, but can only be a bright and magical beginning.
And in the immortal words of Peeves: "We did it, we bashed them, wee Potter’s the one, and Voldy’s gone moldy, so now let’s have fun!"
